Mike Beech was commissioned into the RAF in 1970, and on completion of flying training was posted to fly the Harrier GR.3 in the UK and West Germany. In 1982 he flew a Harrier from Ascension Island to the Royal Navy aircraft carrier HMS Hermes as reinforcement for operations against Argentinian forces in the Falkland Islands. Mike flew a number of Harrier GR.3 sorties over the Falklands from HMS Hermes, and continued to fly the Harrier after the war and his return to the UK.
