John Douglas Hill joined up in May 1947, and was posted to RAF Compton Basset to train to be a Wireless Teleprinter Operator. John had to learn how to type in two weeks, and had to be able to type 25 words a minute, with a maximum of two mistakes. The training was difficult, but John loved it. John was interviewed by volunteers at the RAFA Wings Centre, Preston.
