In September 1944 a massive airborne assault was planned to capture a number of key bridges in the Netherlands, ground forces would then rapidly advance to meet with the lightly armed airborne forces, thereby establishing a bridgehead over the river Rhine and a foothold in Germany, which it was hoped would end the war in 1944. In this 1945 BBC recording, Dakota glider tug pilot, Jimmy Edwards recalls the briefing he and his colleagues from 271 Squadron had in preparation for the airborne assault on Arnhem in September 1944.
