Ronald Anderson joined the Royal Air Force in 1942. After initial training in Blackpool, Ron was to be trained to be a trainee radio observer. However, a development in systems meant an observer was no longer required, so Ron completed a course at Bradford Technical College to become a Wireless Mechanic. Ron travelled around Africa and into India where he worked with 320 Maintenance Unit at Karachi in the Singh Desert, reinstalling radio equipment into aircraft brought over from the UK by ship.
