This is the story of how this iconic fighter, a Battle of Britain veteran aircraft, came to crash in a remote field in Co Monaghan, Ireland in 1942. Declared 'war weary' after being shot down and damaged on the 6th August 1940, the aircraft was moved to Northern Ireland to fly weather surveys. It crashed on 20th Sept 1942. I excavated the crash site with local schools and eye witnesses, traced the pilot's family and launched an award winning exhibition in June 2018 with Monaghan Co Council.
