Peter Stevens, born as Georg Franz Hein in Germany in 1919, was a German Jew evacuated to Britain to escape the Nazis. In a colourful life, he served in the RAF, spent time as a POW, made several daring escapes, was awarded the Military Cross and worked for MI6 spying on the Soviets.
