Conflict of Culture

When you are from another country,

or your parents are from another country,

their sense of patriotism is naturally going to lie

with that other country.

And there could be a tension between the fact

that you are ostensibly from one country,

but actually you may end up fighting for another.

So there was, certainly when I was young,

a suggestion when they realized

that I was interested in this kind of thing,

that I should perhaps go and join the Indian Air Force.

But as a British person,

having been brought up with British values,

and wanting to defend where I am and what I believe in,

it was more natural for me to join the RAF.
